A DPS Trooper in Goliad County recovered a pickup that was stolen from La Grange two weeks ago. According to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, Trooper Oscar Garcia Jr.

Pin Oak Cemetery, a historic cemetery located in our county between Flatonia and La Grange, just off FM 609, and southwest of the Muldoon turnoff, is the burial grounds of San Jacinto Veteran William Gorham with a State of Texas Historical Marker.

The Fayette Community Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity that was formed in 2001 to help Fayette County and surrounding community members easily use their resources for lasting legacies or one-time gifts given to area non-profits. The foundation proudly serves the remarkable people whose gifts sustain and support the charities of the region while also serving the community as a whole by acting as a bridge between resources and the local nonprofits who work diligently to meet the changing needs of Fayette County.

Arts for Rural Texas will kick off its seasonal festivities when it opens the 2020 Holiday Show on Dec. 12. Each year, the art organization, whose main campus is based in Fayetteville, opens its doors to celebrate the creativity of the citizens and their communities in the South Central Texas region. Neighbors and friends from across Texas welcomed Christmas to Round Top on Saturday, Dec. 6. Activities were limited this year in the interest of public health and safety, but visitors were able to enjoy hearty beef stew offered by the Round Top Family Library, cookies offered by Do Your Duty Club, and refreshments offered by local show funds and businesses.

Traditions abound this time of year and while some are still in practice, others have fallen by the wayside. One Wendish/German tradition was exciting, but frightening. It was the visit from Rumplich.

The Schulenburg Weimar Area Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program recently held it first art contest to recognize parents as their child’s first and most important teacher. Children were asked to create a picture of themselves and the grown-up(s) in their life that they recognize as their first and most important teacher.

Recently Cindy and Tom Cave were visiting Cindy’s mom Elizabeth Kipp in Winchester, and her neighbor, Laura Matthijetz, shared some wonderful satsuma-tangerines that she has growing in her yard. “It’s hard to believe citrus fruit can grow this far from the valley,” Cindy said.

ARTS, based in Fayetteville, continues to expand its programs. As 2021 opens, youth in the South-Central Texas region will have the opportunity to enjoy even more art programs.

CornerStone Dental in La Grange will donate toothbrushes and toothpaste to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Santa Program. They will be included in Christmas gift packages that will be given to less fortunate children in the community. Pictured (front from left) are Lt.
