The noisy rooster on the south side of La Grange was among the topics of conversation at Monday’s City Council meeting. To be fair, there wasn’t much else on the agenda.

Bristol Smitley showed her mini hereford “Lil Red” at the Texas Miniature Hereford Southern Showdown in Bryan at the Brazos Expo Center recently and placed 3rd at the event. She is the daughter of Madison Krenek and Travis Smitley of Willow Springs and the granddaughter of Stephen and Nicole Krenek of Ellinger.

The Smithville Times • Two months after winning re-election to the highest elected office in Smithville, Mayor Scott Saunders is resigning effective Jan. 11.

At St. Mark’s Medical Center, hospital staff on the front line continue to care for the community and procedures continue to be scheduled.

The Ellinger VFD responded to several 911 calls recently. On Jan. 6, the VFD responded to a one vehicle roll over at FM 955 and Schumacher Rd. On Jan. 8, firemen were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at FM 955 and Biegel Rd., and on Jan. 9 at 11:59 p.m. firemen responded to a structure fire on East Fayette St. Luckily there was just a problem with the wood heater.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Jan. 3-10.

On Jan. 3, Jerry Kubala was presented a wooden clock with the American Legion emblem on it for his outstanding leadership as Commander of Post 602 in Shelby. Jerry was in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam conflict and served with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) for four years. His job was maintenance of radar/communications systems. Jerry has been a member of the American Legion for 52 years and served as Post Commander for Post 602 for 20 of those years. He also served two years as Vice Commander for District 9 and another two years as Commander for District 9. Presenting the award of appreciation is the current Post Commander, Calvin Coufal.
