The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that about 30 percent of Fayette County residents aged 16 and above have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, even as numerous options for vaccines are being added.

The La Grange High School academics team placed 1st at the District 20-4A UIL Academics Spring Meet. Regional qualifiers will compete at the Region 3 Academic Meet on Saturday, April 17, at Stephen F.

Though quiet and humble bachelors, Schulenburg natives Victor and Joe Stanzel achieved the quintessential 20th century American Dream. The selfeducated, workaholic brothers realized prosperity and success in the model airplane business through a fascinating combination of ambition, talent and hard work. Hundreds of dedicated workers, most assigned to the factory assembly line, helped carve out a niche for Victor Stanzel Co.

Recently Nancie and Billy Blair took off for a much deserved vacation. They traveled to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. They rode the train from Los Angeles to Williams where they took the train from Williams, Arizona to Grand Canyon Village enjoying some fantastic scenery. The best part was it was in a domed fully refurbished Pullman car. That just enhanced the experience. The report is that the views they enjoyed of the Grand Canyon were “fantastic.” They had a wonderful visit that even included lunch with their granddaughter, who is attending college in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California. Nancie and Billy had not gotten to see their granddaughter for over two years, making this trip all the more special.

Ripkyn Kuecker, daughter of RaChelle and Clint Kuecker, was baptized at Martin Luther Lutheran Church on March 20 by the Rev. David Tinker. Her sponsors are Shelley Scheffer, Shayne Kirts, Shelby Vaughn, Gary Bolcerek, and Ron Kuecker.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and CASA of Bastrop, Fayette, & Lee Counties is raising awareness of the need for more dedicated members of the community to step up and become CASA volunteers and help end child abuse and neglect through supporting children and their families.

April 20 will be the next meeting of the Round Table Book Club. It will begin at 7 p.m. and the book “Where the Forest Meets the Stars” by Glendy Vanderah will be discussed. COVID-19 protocols will be observed.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Watch UR BAC program has a new campaign to encourage the public to report suspected impaired drivers. All motorists have a civil duty to report impaired drivers and help keep roadways safe.
