County Awash With Vaccine Options
The Texas Department of State Health Services reports that about 30 percent of Fayette County residents aged 16 and above have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, even as numerous options for vaccines are being added.
Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said 9,888 doses have been administered in Fayette County as of last week. That number includes a mix of the onedose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and the two-dose Moderna vaccine. Moreau said he did not know how many of each vaccine have been given out. DSHS estimates there are about 20,879 residents in Fayette County who are eligible to receive a vaccine.
The Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccine may not currently be given to people under age 18. The FDA has given emergency approval for 16 and 17 year olds to receive the Pfizer vaccine. However, the Pfizer vaccine requires much colder temperatures for storage. Moreau said there are no Pfizer vaccines available near Fayette County. Accordingly, few if any 16 and 17 year olds in Fayette County have gotten a shot. So far, the FDA has not given emergency approval to any vaccine for patients younger than 16.
Moreau said Fayette County is getting close to a point where everyone who wants a vaccine has gotten one.
“We’re not quite there yet, though,” Moreau said. “I would say that we’re at a point where everyone with access to information about where to get a vaccine has gotten one if they want one. There are some people who don’t read the newspaper or listen to the radio. Our focus right now is getting that information out there.”

Flatonia
Your Hometown Pharmacy (formerly called Main Street Pharmacy) is receiving Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccines. They will have a large vaccination event this Thursday, April 8th, at their store. Call 361-865-3554 for more information or to be placed on the waiting list.

La Grange
St. Mark’s Hospital has Moderna available now, and may have Johnson and Johnson in the future. Register at www.smmctx.org and click on “Covid Vaccine,” or call (979) 242-2325. They will be hosting two very large events soon.
A very large Moderna first dose clinic will be held Friday April 16th at the Fayette County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Please pre-register.
A Moderna second dose clinic will be held Monday, April 19, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for those who already were vaccinated at the previous drive-through on March 22.
La Grange Family Health was recently approved to receive vaccines and they hope to have deliveries of both Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccines soon. Call (979) 968-8493 for information or to be placed on the waiting list.

Mass Events and Hubs
The County will host a vaccine drive at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange on the following days:
• April 16 – est. 1,000 Moderna first dose vaccines (register at St. Marks)
•April 17 – est. 2,000 Johnson and Johnson vaccines, no registration needed
• April 19 – second dose vaccines for those who received their first vaccine on March 22.
The regional vaccine Sub-HUB remains underway at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Brenham. First dose vaccines are given every Tuesday, and second dose vaccines are given every Wednesday. You can register on-site or pre-register at www.localevent.info or call (979) 421-4131.
Bedbound, homebound or similar patients

Moreau said the County is also seeking volunteers to assist with the upcoming vaccine drive at the Fairgrounds.
“We need volunteers April 15-20 to help set-up, tear-down, direct traffic, help with paperwork, and administer vaccines,” Moreau said. “We need businesses or individuals to feed military personnel and volunteers on April 16, 17 and 19.
