The Fayette County Habitat for Humanity Skydiving fundraiser set for last Saturday was postponed due to weather. “While the rain forecast did improve the wind forecast calls for gusts up to 25 mph which doesn’t work well for skydiving. While we are disappointed at this delay we plan to use these next few weeks to add some entertainment for folks coming to watch. Our makeup date will be May 22 and we will follow the same jump schedule,” said Habitat Executive Director Kenny Couch, who will also be skydiving.

Kids from La Grange Elementary prepared a delicious homemade lunch for the military personnel, volunteers and County staff assisting with the drive-through vaccine clinic at the Fayette County Fairgrounds last Friday.

Andrea Mathis has been selected as the featured poster artist at Arts for Rural Texas’ ArtWalk 2021 to be held in Fayetteville on May 1 and 2. Mathis’ painting, Electric Horse is the piece selected as the image for this year’s show.

My peppers and tomato plants started to really take off last week, so I decided it was time to prune them. If you grow peppers or indeterminate tomatoes, I recommend pruning to increase production and tidiness of the plants.

Real estate development in the southern part of Fayette County ticked up in recent months according to County Inspector Clint Sternadel. County subdivision regulations require property owners to file development permits when building structures in the unincorporated areas of Fayette County and septic system permits whenever installing an on-site sewer system.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. around the Fayette County Courthouse Square. This event is La Grange’s premier wine stroll and a bucket list must to enjoy great wine, shop at local downtown stores, eat on the Courthouse lawn with a grab-and-go meal, and listen to live music.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready for its 84th Annual Tomato Festival scheduled for Sunday, May 30 at the Ellinger Community Center. There will be a drive thru Chamber fried chicken and sausage meal with all the trimmings. Plates may be picked up starting at 10:30 a.m. for $12 per plate. A Bar-B-Que Cook Off has also been scheduled. On Friday, May 28 there will be a chef’s choice entrée, dessert, salsa and chips competition. On Saturday, May 29, contestants will be competing for cash prizes for best brisket, pork ribs, pork butts, chicken, and pinto beans. There will be live music, raffles, and an auction. Additionally there will be a Chopped Challenge – secret ingredients, local celebrity judges and a live final showdown. Pre-registration is required. Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Monday morning around 9:12 a.m. drug interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann and his canine Kolt conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Chevrolet Z-71 on I-10 traveling eastbound at the 666 mile marker for a traffic violation.

The next Zoom Winedale talk will be about German dance halls on Tuesday, April 20 at 12 p.m. Casey Jordan, Executive Director of Texas Dance Hall Preservation, Inc. will host a presentation entitled “Two Step Your Way Through Time and Discover Texas history in our Historic Dance Halls.” Texas once had 1,000 dance halls; today only 400 remain, almost half of which were built by German immigrants.
