Historic Dance Hall Virtual Presentation is Tuesday
The next Zoom Winedale talk will be about German dance halls on Tuesday, April 20 at 12 p.m. Casey Jordan, Executive Director of Texas Dance Hall Preservation, Inc. will host a presentation entitled “Two Step Your Way Through Time and Discover Texas history in our Historic Dance Halls.” Texas once had 1,000 dance halls; today only 400 remain, almost half of which were built by German immigrants. Round Top Hermann Sons Life
The Round Top Hermann Sons Life Lodge No. 151 will return to their regular monthly meeting schedule with the April meeting. This month’s meeting will be on Thursday, April 22 at the Quade-Werchan American Legion Post at Round Top beginning at 6 p.m. with a social time. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with a meal to follow. The Lodge will provide “Sloppy Joe” sandwiches and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
150th Anniversary Celebration
Over the last few months, the Round Top Sesquicentennial Committee, Town Council, and volunteers have been enthusiastically recharged to resume planning the town’s rescheduled 150th Anniversary Celebration on May 8 of this year. This all-day event kicks off at 10 a.m. and promises to honor the heritage and founding of Round Top with community spirit, historical presentations, live music, local food, and family-friendly recreation. The Sesquicentennial Committee hopes that guests will be enticed to spend Mother’s Day weekend in Round Top creating memories of community spirit and family-friendly fun.
“We are excited about the upcoming date of May 8 and look forward to celebrating Round Top with family and friends. Our town has such a rich German history and over its 150 years, its uniqueness has been discovered by many who have fallen in love with the magical pull of our community. We hope that rescheduling to Mother’s Day weekend proves to be a great opportunity to welcome locals and visitors to join in on the celebration of our culturally-rich town while also building memories with multiple generations of family members.” said Amy Bone, Co-Chair of Round Top’s Sesquicentennial Committee.
With 150 years in the making, the upcoming Anniversary Celebration is already one of the town’s biggest community-supported events in recent history. Sponsorships from local businesses, community leaders, and the Town Council have exceeded expectations, allowing the Sesquicentennial Committee to coordinate multiple forms of quality entertainment scheduled throughout the event.
“Our committee members have been working hard to ensure there is really something for everyone to enjoy during the celebratory weekend,” explains Bone. “From the photographic history of Round Top, to live music on the Square, to touring the inside and out of the beautiful Festival Hill Concert Hall, the Taste of Round Top booths featuring local restaurants, bringing in an illusionist for a magic show and fire truck water spray especially for the kids, to Saturday night’s country legends tribute to Waylon, Willie & George in our Historic Dance-hall, we’ve planned to make it a party everyone will remember for years to come.”
One of the event’s biggest highlights, the first ever “Taste of Round Top” will be held on the square during the Anniversary Celebration and highlights the diverse local restaurants of the town. “We are thrilled to showcase the best of the best food from Round Top to locals and visitors alike.” says Co-Chair of the Sesquicentennial Committee, Mayor Mark Massey.
Accompanying the Sesquicentennial, a 48-page historical folio written by local author Sally Reynolds, was distributed to all community members within last year’s July 24 issue of The Fayette County Record. The town’s historical literature can now be found distributed amongst local businesses, B&Bs, as well as inside the Round Top Chamber of Commerce.
RT-C Kindergarten Roundup
RT-C Elementary will have a modified Kindergarten Roundup on April 21 at the elementary school from 5- 6 p.m. Children who plan to attend kindergarten at Round Top Carmine Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year are invited to attend. Parents are asked to bring their completed enrollment packet, found on rtcisd.net, along with all required documents at this time. Families will be required to stay in their cars, and wear face coverings. The kindergarten teacher will visit with you in your car.
Monday Night Social
The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Social takes place on the first through fourth Mondays of the month from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the RTRA.
Round Top Family Library
The Round Top Family Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and closed on the weekends. Bethlehem Lutheran Church
Bethlehem Lutheran Church holds services with Pastor John David Nedbalek Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion is celebrated using individual, prepackaged units. Deadline for graduating seniors to apply for the Schmidt-Baranowski Scholarship is May 1.
City of Refuge Church
The City of Refuge Church on 237 in Round Top holds Bible study on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. followed by church service at 11 a.m.

Round Top Christian Fellowship Church holds bible study at 8:30 a.m. with a service following at 10 a.m.
