Ellinger Tomato Fest Details Finalized

84th Annual Tomato Festival

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready for its 84th Annual Tomato Festival scheduled for Sunday, May 30 at the Ellinger Community Center. There will be a drive thru Chamber fried chicken and sausage meal with all the trimmings. Plates may be picked up starting at 10:30 a.m. for $12 per plate. A Bar-B-Que Cook Off has also been scheduled. On Friday, May 28 there will be a chef’s choice entrée, dessert, salsa and chips competition. On Saturday, May 29, contestants will be competing for cash prizes for best brisket, pork ribs, pork butts, chicken, and pinto beans. There will be live music, raffles, and an auction. Additionally there will be a Chopped Challenge – secret ingredients, local celebrity judges and a live final showdown. Pre-registration is required. Candidate Forum

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Candidate Forum for all persons running for a City of Ellinger position. Ellinger residents will go to the polls on May 1 to elect a mayor and two commissioners. The forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the dining hall of the Ellinger Community Center. The public is invited to hear from the candidates seeking election. They will be discussing various issues along with a question and answer time.

Fayetteville Brethren Church

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. COVID-19 protocols will be followed. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.

Shared Lutheran Ministry

The Shared Lutheran Ministry Council (SLM) will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinger. The Congregation of Councils will also meet in Ellinger, but at 6:30 p.m. The SLM is holding confirmation classes in the St. John Rutersville Fellowship Hall from 5:30-6:45 p.m. each Wednesday of the month. Study will include the New Testament letters.

St. John Lutheran Church of Rutersville will be sponsoring a fundraiser on Saturday, May 8. This will be a chicken fried pork steak dinner.

Ellinger VFD Feast

The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department has scheduled its Annual Feast and Fundraiser for Sunday, April 25. The event will take place at the Ellinger Community Center. There will be a drive thru only BBQ lunch. Firemen and community members will be preparing Bar-B-Que chicken, sausage, and all the trimmings. Plates will cost $12 and may be picked up starting at 10:30 a.m. You may also purchase BBQ chicken at the pits for $9 per chicken. Additionally there will be a live auction beginning at 1:30 p.m. under the outdoor pavilion. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase new firefighting equipment.
