Kids Cook for Vaccine Volunteers

Kids Cook for Vaccine Volunteers

Kids from La Grange Elementary prepared a delicious homemade lunch for the military personnel, volunteers and County staff assisting with the drive-through vaccine clinic at the Fayette County Fairgrounds last Friday.

Students in the class taught by Sharon Novak and Amy Shimek prepared homemade lasagna garlic bread and a green salad for the service members.

“We wanted to say thank you to our heroes for their sacrifice,” said La Grange Elementary Principal Lauren Almanza. “We though it would be a fun way to give back.”

The service men and women were also treated Friday morning to a breakfast of kolaches and pigs-in-the-blanket donated by Rutersville Herman Sons Life and coffee donated by Latte on the Square.

Only 300 of 1,000 Vaccines Used

Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau reported that about 300 people received vaccines on Friday and Saturday, which he described as a “low turnout.” The County had about 1,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine available.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), 17.61 percent of Fayette County residents over the age of 16 are vaccinated with at least one dose.

As of Monday morning, April 19, DSHS estimates about 114 active COVID-19 cases, 60 fatalities and 2,456 recoveries in Fayette County,
