Four local ballet students – Stassney Ahrens (9) of Flatonia, Claire Besetzny (9) of Schulenburg, Grace Malinovsky (13) of Shiner and Kamryn Kelly (12) of Muldoon – all won 1st place with their respective routines at the Dance Showcase USA Regional Competition held this past weekend in Bastrop.

The Rotary Club of La Grange served food on Monday to the volunteers at the second dose vaccine distribution event held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds..

In the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives, we are usually the ones dispensing information, but that wasn’t the case recently when a young man called asking what we knew about Clara Belle Drisdale Williams. We had to admit that we had never heard of her, but we soon learned her rather remarkable story.

Waldeck Lutheran Church is sponsoring their annual picnic on May 23. There will be a drive-thru meal catered by Texas One Stop in La Grange consisting of pulled pork, sausage, hot potato salad, pinto beans, and sauce. Tickets are $10. There will also be a drawing.

The Pin Oak Cemetery held a cleanup and meeting over a recent weekend. They got together and worked on cleaning graves and repairing fences. Pin Oak is a historic cemetery with Texas history buried within in its bounds. Some of the old wrought iron fencing was in bad need of repair, so John and Susan Coppedge under took this update. This round they installed fencing around William Gorham’s grave. Gorham was a Battle of San Jacinto veteran.

Fayette County 4-H members participated in the District 11 4-H Spring Spectacular Contest on April 16 and 17 in Victoria. Events included Public Speaking, Educational Presentations, Quiz Bowl, Duds to Dazzle, Fashion Show, Sharethe-Fun, Fashion Storyboard, and Consumer Decision Making.
