Children’s Advocacy Center The Children’s Advocacy Center of Bastrop, Lee, and Fayette Counties is where the cycle of abuse stops and healing begins. It is a child-friendly facility where child victims of abuse may be interviewed, undergo medical evaluations, and receive therapy.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Monday, April 26, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K-9 partner Kolt, stopped a Dodge Durango on Interstate 10 at the 667 mile-marker eastbound at approximately 9:35 a.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver Sgt. Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle was involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann deployed his canine Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann observed Kolt alerted to the interior of the vehicle for the presence of illegal narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed an after-market compartment built into the dash. Eight bricks of cocaine, with a street value of $885,000 was removed from the compartment. The driver, Lauro Valdes, 23 of San Antonio, was arrested for felony drug possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. Assisting on the stop was Fayette County Investigator David Smith. The La Grange Recreation Department needs part-time employees this summer to work as lifeguards and camp counselors for summer youth programs. City Recreation Director Janet Rangel said the positions offer a great opportunity for teenagers, college students and school district employees with extra time this summer.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on April 27, Deputy Seth Nagel conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a lane violation, on Hwy 71 near The Point Store, in West Point. An investigation was conducted and consent to search was granted. Deputy Nagel located approximately three grams of cocaine on the driver, and THC wax, THC oil, and THC gummies in the vehicle. The driver, identified as 34 year old James Pham, of Stafford, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. 3rd degree and 2nd degree felonies.
