Battle of San Jacinto Veteran’s Grave Updated
The Pin Oak Cemetery held a cleanup and meeting over a recent weekend. They got together and worked on cleaning graves and repairing fences. Pin Oak is a historic cemetery with Texas history buried within in its bounds. Some of the old wrought iron fencing was in bad need of repair, so John and Susan Coppedge under took this update. This round they installed fencing around William Gorham’s grave. Gorham was a Battle of San Jacinto veteran.
There were eleven volunteers who showed up to help clean the grounds and the tombstones. They had a fun day of visiting and exchanging stories of the original descendants who brought their families to Fayette County in the 1800’s.
The Muldoon area is an area steeped deep in history and many of the graves in Pin Oak date back to the 1880s and bears witness to those who lost their lives settling the area.
Pitman Services
Pitman annual Memorial Service will be on Sunday May 2 at 2:30 pm. Seating will be in the chapel, but anyone who wishes may bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the service outside. This is a time for reflection of those who came before us and have passed on. It is a time when families gather to remember and catch up with others they may have not seen in a long time. Anyone with loved ones laid to rest in Pitman Cemetery can come out and pay their respects along with so many others.
Out and About
Ron and Pam Knotts recently enjoyed a ten day visit from their granddaughter, Keylee Simpson. She was able to come for a longer visit this time before starting a new job. Keylee lives in Conway, Arkansas, but likes to come spend time in the country. She has been learning a lot about cattle and knows all the names of the Knotts’ herd. Keylee was also able to help with several projects Ron was working on his shop and did quite a bit of painting. She also visited some family and even attended the Flatonia Crawfish Celebration while here.
Weather
Muldoon has been experiencing some cooler days recently. Temperatures hover around seventy most days with some heavy due in the mornings. A brisk wind has been blowing and making it feel much cooler at times. Even cooler temps the humming birds are starting to really come in and take advantage of the feeders.
Neighborhood Watch
All the temperature changes and pollen has a number in the area having sinus issues. Be sure and check on your neighbor, especially the older ones in the area. This is also a good time to confirm with your neighbors a mutual neighborhood watch. If something out of the ordinary is observed make a phone call to that neighbor and let them know what you saw. This can help prevent crime in the area.
