A $19,848 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative will allow Round Top to install energy-efficient outdoor lighting on its historic town hall and the public square that surrounds it.

At a lunchtime meeting on May 1, the Friends of the La Grange Railroad Depot agreed to open the museum every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until the last visitor has left. Staffing slots through the end of the summer were filled, and training for other members was planned.

On Tuesday, May 11 at approximately 1:38 a.m. Deputy A.J. Gonzales conducted a traffic stop on a green GMC SUV on I-10, near mile-marker 673, for an equipment violation. As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver fled from the vehicle on foot and ran into the brush. Also seen fleeing from the passenger side of the vehicle were six to eight Hispanic males. The males fled into the thick wooded area. A search of the area was conducted and no people were found. The vehicle was towed. This incident is believed to be a human smuggling attempt.

Jason and Sara Lewis of San Antonio announce the arrival of Connor James Lewis born on May 6 at North Central Baptist Hospital. He was welcomed home by big brother, Jackson Elliott.

The Round Top Census of 1900 At the turn of the Century many African American Pioneers of Fayette County began to migrate to other counties and other states due to the lack of job opportunities here. The 1900 census was the last before the great migration began from Fayette County.

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is sponsoring a Blood Drive at Martin Luther Lutheran Church this Sunday, May 23 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Lane Rightmer graduated from Baylor University on Friday May 7 with her Masters of Science in Nutrition. She has been hard at work to acquire her degree and has already tested and received her licenses as a registered dietitian.

This year the association will be offering a $1,000 scholarship to a person enrolled or enrolling in an institute of higher learning for careers in the professions of nursing, teaching, criminology/peace officer, fire sciences, dental, radiology/imaging or EMT certification/paramedic degree.

Schulenburg High School Senior Taylor Limbaugh put on an employment skills workshop for Schulenburg juniors and seniors for her Texas FFA Ford Leadership Scholar Project. Approximately 40 students were in attendance. They had the opportunity to learn various employment skills and explore local job industries. Students attended three morning workshops where they learned how to interview with Craig Schulz, how to give an elevator speech with James Schramek, and how to build a resume with Tyler Price. In the afternoon, attendees were able to talk to local professionals and explore various careers. The students also spoke with Schulenburg High School Principal Charles Henke, Chip Bubela with Team Bubela Real Estate, Paula Grahmann with Hometown Pharmacy and Meagan Jurica and Tonia Srubar-Livingston with Beyond Therapy. Overall, the attendees learned very valuable skills that they can apply throughout their lives as well as in pursuit of future careers.
