Team Winchester

Team Winchester appreciates everyone for the donations received supporting the MS Texas 150 Bike Ride. Inclement weather conditions prevented the ride from taking place, a disappointment for the Team Winchester riders, Amanda Hart and Tom Atkins who were to start in La Grange and finish in College Station, a ride of just over 80 miles. They raised donations of over $4,275 which goes for Multiple Sclerosis research and patient support. Both riders plan on riding next year and are looking for other team members. If you would like to participate, look for more information in this column when details of next year’s ride come out.

Young at Heart

Dominos were played at Young at Heart this week. Participants were excited to see one another after a year of staying safe from COVID-19. A decision was made to meet again on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at Zilss Hall for games and fellowship. Please come, bring a dish to share and join your neighbors.

Book Club Meeting

The Winchester Book Club has selected the book “The Only Woman in the Room” by Marie Benedict for its May review. The book explores the unbelievable life of the woman better known as movie star Hedy Lamarr. However, an invention she patented in 1942 eventually becomes part of the foundation for the modern cell phone. The club will meet on May 18 at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. Sherry Murphy will be leading the discussion. Please come and join.

Movie Night at The Park

The Board of Missions and Board of Education will be hosting a movie night at SMLC Park on Saturday, May 22 at 6 p.m., and everyone is welcome. Grab your favorite comfy seating and come join us for a family-friendly movie at the park. Hot dogs and popcorn will be provided, and adults can bring their own beverages. Invite your neighbors and bring friends. To help us plan for numbers, you can RSVP to the Facebook event @smlcwinchestertx or to the church office at (979) 242-3444 or secretary@ stmichaelswinchester.org.

Barn Board Quilt Trail

Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange. The trail is self-drive, is available at your convenience and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing the wildflowers and the beautiful quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road.

Recycling Trailer

The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow. These bins are not for household garbage. Please recycled items only.
