Masonic Lodge is Still a Great Fraternal Order

To the Editor: I read the article in the Fayette County Record entitled: “Lafayette Masonic Lodge Past Members” (July 3 issue.) Actually, the article was honoring the lodge’s past presiding officers. I am a 5th-generation Freemason, and have been honored to join additional Masonic organizations such as the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, the Shriners, Grottoes, Knight Masons, Royal Order of Scotland, Masonic Sojourners, Heroes of ‘76, Robert-the-Bruce Association, Masonic Rosicrucians, The Red Cross of Constantine, and others.

Vouchers Could Change Homeschool Landscape

The passage of the state’s first voucher program means homeschool families in Texas will soon be eligible for up to $2,000 to use toward educational costs such as tutoring or curriculum. From 500,000 to 600,000 Texas children are being homeschooled — between 8% and 10% of all school-aged children, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Low Aquifers

I attended a lecture in February and the speaker asked this question: “Why are our aquifers getting so low?” The response from the speaker and most of the audience was “Too many straws in the ground.” A few said climate change. While I cannot deny that the number of straws in the aquifer contributes to lowering of the aquifer, I doubt that this is the major reason for the aquifer’s decline.

Individual Freedom

Let Freedom Ring! Every July 4th, we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. On this day, the Continental Congress formally announced the separation of the United States from the British Empire and the birth of a new nation, the United States of America. Today, we celebrate that momentous occasion with fireworks, family, friends, and food. There’s nothing like a good party.

Unfocused Democrats

To the Editor: After reading Justin’s letter in last Friday’s Record, I found two points I could agree with him on. One, that “inherently everyone is capable of being an *insert expletive*”, and two, “Democrats are no strangers to corruption.” The Democrats have no solutions, only theatrical distractions like making a scene interrupting a press conference and then playing the victim of police brutality when failing to cooperate with police.

The March

To the Editor: Thirty years ago on April 2,1995 I marched in Austin, Texas to stop the hate and violence. I was reminded of this March when I found the t-shirt that I had worn.

Burnt Offerings

I’ve never been known for my cooking, but after eleven years of step-mothering four teenagers, I could get a meal on the table for— not a cast of thousands—but at least 15 hungry, non-discriminating folks.

Action Needed

To the Editor: I’m concerned for the poor elderly women in the Schulenburg home that are being prayed upon by the, now 27, sexual predators housed there. The fact the manager has tried to cover this up is despicable to say the least.

Abbott Vetoes THC Ban, Calls Special Session

Gov. Greg Abbott just before the midnight deadline Sunday vetoed a bill on THC products and said he would call a special legislative session to regulate products containing the substance, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The veto angered the bill’s chief champion, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
