New House Speaker Lays Out Challenges

The 87th session of the Texas Legislature opened Tuesday with COVID-19 encompassing every aspect of what the lawmakers do, according to new House Speaker Dade Phelan. “COVID, obviously, it will be a blanket over the entire session,” Phelan told his hometown TV station, KFDM Channel 6, in Beaumont.

Best Little Quilt Show to Become a Quilt Walk Downtown This Year

The La Grange girls basketball team stayed atop the District 20-4 standings as they went to Austin Tuesday and bashed LBJ 67-29. Aysia Grant led La Grange in scoring with 16 points and Kailee Jones added 11.

LBJ Knocks Leps Into Second Place

In a battle between the only two undefeated teams left in District 20-4A play, Austin LBJ came to La Grange and defeated the Leps 55-42 Tuesday night. “They have unbelievable speed that you can not replicate in practice,” said La Grange head coach David Cooper, of LBJ.

Lady Leps’ Most Prolific Goal Scorer Ever Is Our Newest County Athlete of the Week

La Grange High School senior soccer player Shelby Hofferek has led her Lady Leopards soccer team to a 3-1-1 start, scoring three goals on the season, which is the most on the team. She also holds the all-time school record for most goals scored.

Fayetteville’s Canik Calls it a Career

Injury has prompted Amber Canik to abandon her college basketball career. The Fayetteville High School graduate said she decided in mid-December not to stay on the Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team.
