Everything’s Bigger This Fourth of July, Including the Fireworks
Blanca Villanueva of Mr. B Fireworks was setting up her stand next to the Los Pinos Import Shop on the Bluff Tuesday, June 30. It was her first day of business.
“This year we have a lot of variety,” she said. “Everything from special bundles for kids, $20 and $40 variety packs – for budgets of any type.”
Many of the bundles this year feature patriotic themes with red, white and blue fireworks in honor of America’s 250th Anniversary.
There are no local restrictions on shooting fireworks in unincorporated areas this Fourth of July since Fayette County is not currently in a burn ban. Accordingly, Villanueva said she hoped for a good season.
Her stand will be open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, and 8 a.m.-midnight on Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4. Villanueva said she’ll also be open on Sunday, July 5, from noon-6 p.m. to sell any remaining stock.
Most of the incorporated cities in Fayette County prohibit the shooting of fireworks within their city limits. As always, people should be aware of their local rules and practice fire safety when shooting fireworks.
Folks who live around here will have a couple of opportunities to watch some professional fireworks shows. Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club will put on their annual fireworks show on Friday, July 3. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a C-47 flyover and parachute jump demonstration, live music by Southbound 955, and fireworks at dark.
The St. John Picnic at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church south of Schulenburg will also hold a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
