Texas Wendish Heritage Society The Texas Wendish Heritage Society (TWHS) appreciates the support given to the scholarship program. All Texas Wendish Heritage Scholarship funds are received through fundraising projects and donations.

Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter presents their annual fundraiser, “Deep in the Paws of Texas” Saturday, May 21 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Emily and Sidney Cernoch Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Abigail Dela Rosa, daughter of Myra and Lorenzo Dela Rosa, and was presented by Elaine and Matt Matthys, Phyllis Chavarria, Richard Cernoch, and Rose and Daniel Cernoch.

Taking place at the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange on Sunday, April 3, was the Annual Family Dinner and 56th Anniversary of Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange, Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA). Social hour began at 3:30 p.m. followed by the Welcome given by Mistress of Ceremonies, Regent Shirley Antosh. She said, “As we look back over the year, we can reflect on how our members and our Court have touched the lives of many through our various activities. These experiences have helped us become stronger in faith, compassion, and charity, fulfilling our motto of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, ‘Unity and Charity.’”

The Winchester Area Civic Association will be awarding a scholarship for a person enrolled or enrolling in an institute of higher learning for careers in the professions of nursing, teaching, criminology/peace officer, fire science, dental, radiology/ imaging or EMT certification/ paramedic degree.

After nearly 16 years as Classified Manager at The Fayette County Record, Jackie Daniels’ final day at the newspaper was Thursday as she accepted a job with Capital One. Under Daniels’ direction, the Record’s classified section was more robust than almost any newspaper in this part of the state. Shown above is Daniels with a cake and gift at her going-away party, small tokens from her coworkers for such great work for so long. Daniels was also very active in the local community, as part of the Tejas Clinic board of directors and the Chairman of the La Grange Housing Authority. The City of La Grange resumed hosting their annual career fair on Thursday, April 14, at the Historic Casino Hall. With over 30 employers on hand, the fair had quite the variety of job opportunities from part-time seasonal jobs to full-time professional careers. “A new features to this year’s fair was the interest from local high schools. We had over 100 students from three local high schools attend. They were each given a bingo card to help them break the ice with local employers with many of them walking away with interview dates,” said Hannah Garlick, Economic Development Manager for the City of La Grange. The City of La Grange is looking to host multiple opportunities for youth workforce development throughout the year along with career-oriented opportunities to help our local businesses obtain the staffing that is needed to be successful. In the past, the La Grange Roadrunners Square Dance Club would normally take advantage of a calendar month by taking the fifth Tuesday for a get together at a restaurant that has advertised in its patrons book.
