Winchester Area Civic Association Offering Scholarship
The Winchester Area Civic Association will be awarding a scholarship for a person enrolled or enrolling in an institute of higher learning for careers in the professions of nursing, teaching, criminology/peace officer, fire science, dental, radiology/ imaging or EMT certification/ paramedic degree.
You must be a resident of Fayette County or attending a Fayette County school and enrolled in a college or approved program by fall of 2022. You also may have been enrolled in college for at least one semester with a GPA of 2.5 to be qualified to apply.

Mother’s Day BBQ Chicken
St. Michael’s will be selling BBQ Chickens and Sauce on Mother’s Day, May 8, at the St Michael’s Park. The cost is $11 per chicken and $2 per sauce.
Sign-up sheets are available in the Narthex of the church, the Winchester Depot and Shorty’s. Orders should be placed by April 22, due to supply issues. If you have any questions, text or call Jake Franke at (979) 966- 7416 or Kelly Franke at (979) 966-7414.
MS 150 Volunteers Needed
The MS Society is requesting volunteers to help on April 30th at the Winchester United Methodist Church and Zilss Hall Break Point. Rest stop re sponsibilities include setting up/ taking down the site, running hydration/fruit stations, serving food and beverages to riders, etc. We need 11 volunteers for the 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. shift and 11 volunteers for the 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift.

Team Winchester
The MS150 will return to Winchester as a Break “Point on Saturday, April 30, this year. Bike MS is a ride for a “community of cyclist dedicated to powering breakthrough for more than 1 million people living with multiple sclerosis in the US”.
This year the ride will start from Austin and Houston Saturday morning April 30 and ride to La Grange for Saturday night. On Sunday, May 1, the cyclist will travel to the Finish Line at Kyle Field at the university of Texas A&M, in College Station.
Winchester will once again support a team with Amanda Hart and Tom Atkins riding as Team Winchester.

Round Table Book Club
The April read for the Winchester book club is the book authored by Sue Monk Kidd titled, “The Book of Longings”. The group will meet on April 19 at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall.
Recycling Trailer
The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow away. Reminder: these bins are not for household garbage. Recycled items only.
Barn Board Quilt Trail
A Quilt Block paint class is scheduled for May 14 with spots available. The class will begin at 10 a.m. and will be completed by 4 pm. The cost of the class is $75, and you can register and pay on the website, www. quiltblocktrail.com. All supplies are provided. You are asked to bring sack lunch, an apron, or wear clothes that are suitable for painting. If you have any questions, call Rhoda Gersch at (979) 242-3213 or Margaret Atkins at (512) 751-5298.
Barn Board Quilt Trail
Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area. The trail is self-drive, available at your convenience, and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.
The Little Free Library
The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave.
The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event, you would like to advertise, please post.

Zilss Community Hall

First United Methodist Church
The Winchester First United Methodist Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev. Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.
Baptist Church

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church
The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. Following the worship service, you may gather in the Education Building for Bible Study and Sunday School beginning at 10:15 a.m.
You are welcome to visit for Worship and Bible Study. When you come to the church, introduce yourself to Pastor Nate, he will be thrilled to meet you.
