Laffey

Bob Laffey of La Grange passed away on Sept. 8, 2026. Bob was born in Chicago, Ill. on Nov. 18, 1939 to Alfred and Ruth Laffey. He spent his formative years in Evanston, Ill. Upon graduation from high school in 1957, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent three years in strategic missile systems. Following his time in the USAF, Bob worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA, until he found his calling with IBM. While in Seattle he met and married Glenna Irene Moore, Aug. 11, 1963 who would be by his side for the rest of his life.

Shortly after marriage, Bob and Glenna relocated to Riverside, Calif. where they would start to build their life and family together and Bob would earn his college degree at California Polytechnic State University, Pomona.

In 1978, the Laffey family moved to La Grange with Bob’s new IBM assignment in Austin. After nearly 30 years, Bob retired from IBM. In the years after retirement, Bob completed the Travis County Sheriff’s course, earned a graduate level certificate at University of Texas, and attended Czech language classes eventually becoming conversationally fluent. Bob was a steadfast volunteer in support of the Fayette County Fair and many in La Grange knew him best from his daily walks through town where he helped keep La Grange beautiful by picking up trash along his route.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ruth Laffey; his sister, Janet Hastings, and his half-brother, John Laffey.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna Laffey of La Grange; his five children, LTC Jim Laffey of Stockdale, Carolynn Olsen of Knoxville, Tenn., Cynthia Brinkley of McLean, Va, Janet Lehtonen of College Station, and Robert G Laffey of Pearland. Bob was also a grandfather to 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In honor of Bob Laffey, there will be a celebration of his life with arrangements detailed at a later date.
