Czech Heritage Society Holds Meeting

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Sunday, Sept. 26 in the Hanslik Hall of the Texas Czech Heritage and Culture Center (TCHCC) in La Grange, at 2 p.m. for the fall membership meeting.

President Betty Danner called the meeting to order and led the pledges to the United States and Texas flags along with the heritage prayer. Betty then offered a remembrance to recently deceased members Les Kovar, Wilson Huffer, and Georgia Funderburk. Our deepest condolences are sent to their families.

In old business, president Betty Danner summarized the State Genealogy Meeting that had been held in Hallettsville and gave a report of the CHS executive meeting. Of special note is that 2019 Texas Miss Czech Slovak is the new US Queen and is featured in Texas Highways magazine.

The members enjoyed several games of Ceske-Anglicky bingo, to learn or review Czech names for body parts. Winners announced “Vyhral jsem” or “Vyhrala jsem” for I won.

Upcoming Events Include: State Fall Membership Meeting on Nov. 13 at the Wharton New Taiton Hall.

Fayette County annual Christmas party and dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Hanslik Hall.
