The South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department will serve BBQ chicken on Sunday, Feb. 27. Pick up from 10 a.m.-noon at the Serbin picnic grounds. Chickens are $10 each, sauce is $2 and 16 oz. cups of potato salad, pinto beans and noodles are $3 each. The Blinn College District Surgical Technology Program is hosting a series of online information sessions for students interested in joining the spring 2023 cohort. The application cycle will open Aug. 1.

Tri-County Softball Umpires Association, a member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO), hosted a 2022 Regional Umpires’ Clinic in Hallettsville on Jan. 22. A good number of TASO officials attended from different parts of Texas. There were members from Fort Bend, Sabine-Neches, Victoria, Bryan-College Station, El Paso, and the host, Tri-County.

Julia Patterson of Round Top has made the Liberal Arts Dean’s List at Texas A&M University. This recognition is based on successful completion of at least 15 graded credit hours with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Patterson was the 2020 Valedictorian of Round Top- Carmine High School. Patterson is the daughter of Randall and Linda Patterson of Round Top.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce sponsored a homemade chicken noodle soup lunch on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Ellinger Community Center. In addition to the many kettles of delicious soup there were homemade chicken salad sandwiches and desserts available. The Chamber prepared 250 gallons of soup and they sold out.

Schulenburg/Weimar Parents as Teachers Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent-education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age five. Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators specially trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how, and why advice for families.
