You know it’s time to stay home when even HEB closes. The weather conditions were never as bad a predicted, but icy precipitation fell across Fayette County Thursday afternoon, prompting the closure of numerous businesses and governmental agencies, and yes, even an early closure for the La Grange HEB.

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery signed a proclamation declaring February as Colorado Valley Quilt Guild month. Mayor Dockery will be presenting two Mayor’s awards at the Best Little Quilt Show in Texas on February 25-26 at the La Grange Community Center, 190 S. An overflow crowd filled the meeting room at the Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club in La Grange on Saturday for the third and final forum of the Fayette County Republican County Judge candidates. Three of the four Republican candidates appeared at the forum.

Suspenders, bow ties and gray hair were common sights Wednesday at La Grange Elementary as students celebrated the 100th day of school. Kindergarteners celebrated by dressing up like 100-year-olds. On Jan. 12 The Independent Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution strongly supporting the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act of 2021 in the U.S. Congress.

The Round Top Festival Institute Bybee Library Fundraiser and Valentine’s Concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. This live one-hour benefit, “Love Songs Galore!” will feature Will Lynde on piano, joined by friends J. Gary Smith and Justin Fox on the Festival Concert Hall stage. Concert pianist and Institute Founder, James Dick, will also make an appearance. The afternoon will close with a drawing for a door prize. Adult tickets are $30 and student tickets are $10. As part of this fundraiser, there will be a week-long online library giving campaign beginning Friday, Feb. 11. For tickets or more information visit FestivalHill.org.

The AMEN Food Pantry continued to be very busy in the month of January. Two hundred and fifty-one families were served for the month for a total of 677 individuals. A total of 126 volunteers for 350 hours served the pantry. A total of 2,601 pounds of food were donated.

The Fayette County Area Go-Texan Committee held their annual Shrimp Boil and Auction Saturday at the La Grange KC Hall. Funds from the event are used to provide scholarships to deserving seniors in Fayette County. This past year they gave out $37,000 in scholarships to Fayette County seniors. For residents who receive a water bill from the City of Fayetteville, there’s an option to go paperless. The water bill will then be sent via email instead of postal mail. Simply email the city from the email address you would like to receive your bill. Include your phone number. Or, call the city office and make the request. Calvary Baptist Church, located at 650 S. Ellinger Rd. in La Grange, welcomes new pastor Salvador (Sal) Lopez and wife Michelle. Sal and Michelle married in 2007 in McAllen. Sal is a native of the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas and Michelle was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. Michelle has been a missionary overseas since 1996. She is a retired RN specializing in Lactation Consultation. The past 14 years have been devoted to both stateside and overseas reaching Iraqi, Jordanian, and Syrian Refugees. They served six years in Florida and six years in Abilene, working with Resettlement Organizations and offering seminars and training to fellow Christians with a heart to see Muslims come to Christ. Together they have traveled over 20 countries gaining a vast and rich cross-cultural experience. Sal plays guitar and leads worship. Church services are: Sunday School, 10 a.m.; Worship service, 11 a.m.; and Wednesday Church Prayer meeting, 6 p.m. Once a month, the men meet for prayer, breakfast and bible study. All are welcome to join.
