The Fayette County Area Go-Texan Committee held their annual Shrimp Boil and Auction Saturday at the La Grange KC Hall. Funds from the event are used to provide scholarships to deserving seniors in Fayette County. This past year they gave out $37,000 in scholarships to Fayette County seniors. Above, many of those seniors were introduced on the stage at the KC Hall prior to Saturday’s event.

For residents who receive a water bill from the City of Fayetteville, there’s an option to go paperless. The water bill will then be sent via email instead of postal mail. Simply email the city from the email address you would like to receive your bill. Include your phone number. Or, call the city office and make the request. Calvary Baptist Church, located at 650 S. Ellinger Rd. in La Grange, welcomes new pastor Salvador (Sal) Lopez and wife Michelle. Sal and Michelle married in 2007 in McAllen. Sal is a native of the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas and Michelle was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. Michelle has been a missionary overseas since 1996. She is a retired RN specializing in Lactation Consultation. The past 14 years have been devoted to both stateside and overseas reaching Iraqi, Jordanian, and Syrian Refugees. They served six years in Florida and six years in Abilene, working with Resettlement Organizations and offering seminars and training to fellow Christians with a heart to see Muslims come to Christ. Together they have traveled over 20 countries gaining a vast and rich cross-cultural experience. Sal plays guitar and leads worship. Church services are: Sunday School, 10 a.m.; Worship service, 11 a.m.; and Wednesday Church Prayer meeting, 6 p.m. Once a month, the men meet for prayer, breakfast and bible study. All are welcome to join.

The Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center (TCHCC) presents a new exhibit now featured on display in the Náš Nový Domov Museum. The Moravian Glory: Preserving Our Brilliance is now open and will be on display through May 15.

As of Jan. 28, the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) closed the week with 108 animals care: 58 cats/48 dogs. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Fayette County EMS partnered with the Texas Association of Counties to hold training exercises for ambulance drivers this week in La Grange. Don Courtney with the Texas Association of Counties conducted the training, which included a state-of-art driving simulator.
