NVCC Center Receives Silver Seal of Transparency

The Navidad Valley Community Connections (NVCC) board of director’s has now grown from eight to 12 community leaders. They have started work on the strategic planning process with Vicki LaRue, an active board member from the Round Top Family Library, as facilitator. The community support has been a catalyst for NVCC.

Schulenburg Band Postpones Washington Trip Until 2023

The Schulenburg Shorthorn marching band was set to go to Washington D.C. this year to march in the Memorial Day parade there, but the decision had been made to postpone that trip until next year. Here’s a message from director of bands Justin Bartlett about the decision:

Tipton Lottery Case: Parole & Restitution Update

Iowa officials revoked parole for Eddie Tipton, a man with local connections who is serving a 25-year sentence for rigging computers to win lottery jackpots in multiple states. The Iowa Board of Parole had granted Tipton parole for good behavior back in January.

Easter at the Barnyard

The Jersey Barnyard outside La Grange continued their Easter Weekend tradition by holding their 24th annual Easter egg hunt and other festivities Saturday. An estimated 8,000 eggs were part of the hunts, which were divided by age group. Sack races, egg tosses, music, and feeding of the barnyard animals were all part of the event. Photos by Jeff Wick

Dawn Sedlar and her daughter, Camryn, had an “80s Nite” party to attend and they needed outfits. So they came to Second Chance Emporium in La Grange. Of course. The non-profit is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. every Friday and Saturday and is filled with items from most every decade. Photo by Bill Bishop
