Schulenburg Band Postpones Washington Trip Until 2023

The Schulenburg Shorthorn marching band was set to go to Washington D.C. this year to march in the Memorial Day parade there, but the decision had been made to postpone that trip until next year. Here’s a message from director of bands Justin Bartlett about the decision:

As you all know, the Schulenburg Shorthorn Marching Band has been selected to represent Texas in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC. I would like to thank everyone for their support in helping us raise funds to cover the cost. It is truly wonderful to see so much support for these students. Unfortunately, there are still many mandates and restrictions still in place in Washington DC with the possibility of mass gathering restrictions for the summer holidays with an increase of COVID cases in that region. This has caused over 80% of the parade participants to cancel their invitations for this year. While it was always our goal to do everything possible to attend this year, and have waited to make a call on what would be in the best interest and experience for our students, we have decided to move our invitation to next year summer of 2023. This will allow some of our younger students the opportunity to participate as well as give all students the full experience. All funds raised are still in our SISD account and will go directly to covering the cost for the 2023 parade.”
