Before last week’s Best Little Quilt Show in Texas packed visitors from all over the state into the KC Hall, La Grange mayor Jan Dockery faced the challenge of picking two of the 209 exhibited quilts as her “Pride of La Grange” honorees. Pct. 3 Commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff weighed in on the Fayette County Judge race at the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting last Thursday, Feb.

The last piece of evidence the jury heard in the Billy Polasek murder trial last week was a recorded jail phone call between Polasek and another convicted murderer, Dylan Nelson. A different Fayette County jury convicted Nelson last September for the 2017 murder of La Grange plumber Jeremy Cornwell.

It was almost like a hockey game where a fight didn’t break out. Talking politics can be contentious these days, particularly when half the group is liberal and the other half conservative.

Stacie Brown McCullough was named to the Chancellor’s List at Texas Women’s University for achieving a 4.0 grade point average for the fall semester, which ended in December 2021. Stacie is the wife of Mike McCullough.

Amy and Brian Brown aren’t new to Fayetteville. But their new home located next to the cemetery, topped by a chandelier-lit cupola and their new store on the square are surely something to talk about.

The Blinn College District and the Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar ISD’s recently launched a new partnership designed to increase high school dual credit completion and establish seamless pathways toward postsecondary awards and industry credentials.

Members of the Fayette County retired teachers’ association toured the center on Jan. 15 hosted by the center’s Board President Retta Chandler, and Manager Mark Hermes, it began with a slide presentation of the history of Czech immigration (1850-present day). The reason for the center is to preserve the culture and history of the people who emigrated to Texas from Czech provinces in Europe.

The Shared Lutheran Ministry Worship and Music Team have set the Lenten calendar. The congregations will gather for worship on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. (no soup suppers). Pastors from the Conference will have a pulpit exchange. That means a different local Lutheran pastor will lead worship and bring the message.
