Scholarship The Fayette Community Foundation is now accepting applications for their 2021-2022 Scholarship. This scholarship offers a minimum of $1,000 to graduating high school and homeschool seniors within an 80- mile radius of La Grange who intend to further their education and training at an accredited college, university, or trade school.

Burn Ban Discussed, Kept in Place

Fayette County Commissioners Court extended the ban on outdoor burning for at least another week during a special meeting on Wednesday, April 6. The ban has been in place since Feb.

A house fire in Ledbetter Saturday on FM 1291 completely destroyed the structure. The Ledbetter and Carmine volunteer fire departments as well as Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, Fayette County EMS, Pct. 1 Constable and the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management all responded to the scene. Council Candidates Gather for Forum

The La Grange Citizens Alliance hosted a city council candidate forum at the Fayette County Ag Building in La Grange on Monday, April 5. The City Council election takes place on Saturday, May 7. Incumbent Kathy Weishuhn faces Sandy Hooper in the Ward 1 race. Incumbent Violet “Patsy” Zbranek faces Ken Taylor in the Ward 2 race. Chris Jernigan faces Arthur Bosque in a special Ward 4 election for a one-year term. Jernigan holds one of the Ward 4 seats by appointment. Tuberculosis Case at LGISD

La Grange ISD Superintendent Bill Wagner reported on Monday, April 4, that an individual at La Grange Elementary School has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB). Wagner said the individual is receiving treatment.

New Effort Started to Save LG’s Historic Faison House

The N.W. Faison House, located at 822 S. Jefferson St. (Hwy. 77) across from the Fayette Public Library in La Grange, is an important Fayette County cultural site, with a unique legacy dating from the mid-nineteenth century. The future of this privately-owned landmark, on the National Register of Historic Places at the state level of recognition for its social history, needs to be assured.
