Sheriff Keith Korenek Reports on May Activities

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of May.

Detective Marc Bennett investigated two cases of sexual assault of a child and obtained charges in reference to one of the cases and the other is still under investigation. Bennett is also working on three physical neglect cases with the assistance of Child Protective Services.

Sgt. Ben Wilson responded to shots fired call in the Warda area along with Deputy Duane Meagher in which the vehicle was fleeing the scene. The suspects vehicle was located by Deputies. Through further investigation, arrest warrants were obtained on the suspect for Deadly Conduct and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Sgt. Ron Naumann met with a complainant in reference to fraud and forgery. A report was taken and the case is under investigation. Sgt. Ryan Meagher stopped a vehicle in the Engle area for a traffic offense. After further investigation, the passenger showed to have an active felony warrant for Assault Family/House Impeding Breath. The passenger was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested.

Sgt. Meagher stopped a vehicle in the West Point area for a traffic violation. The driver had an active felony warrant for Insurance Fraud. Meagher also located methamphetamine, ecstasy and a loaded .40 caliber handgun. The driver was arrested without incident.

Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to the Weimar area in reference to a dozer fire. After further investigation, it was determined that a controlled burn got out of hand and caught the dozer on fire. Guentert was also dispatched to the Flatonia area in reference to a suspicious person in a garage. Upon arrival, Guentert was unable to locate any suspects but did find an open window to the garage and it is believed the suspect fled the area on foot.

Deputy A.J Gonzales assisted Fayette County EMS with an elderly citizen that had fallen inside of her house. Gonzales was able to enter the residence and assist the female with getting herself up. Gonzales also responded to Flatonia area in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving two 18-wheelers. Both lanes of traffic were blocked and traffic was rerouted through Gonzales County with the assistance of the Flatonia Fire Department.

Deputy Herman Olvera stopped a vehicle in the Engle area for a traffic violation. After further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of numerous types of narcotics and was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana. Olvera was also dispatched to the Praha area in reference to an intoxicated male subject. After further investigation, the male was located and arrested for Public Intoxication.

Deputy Austin Moore stopped a vehicle in the Flatonia area for a traffic violation. After further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of multiple different kinds of narcotics and a loaded 9 mm Glock handgun. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Deputy James Ulbig was dispatched to the Engle area in reference to a vehicle fire. Ulbig was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of Deputy Terry Guentert. The vehicle was towed by Delgado’s Towing and there were no reported injuries.

Deputy Duane Meagher Jr. took a report of property damage in the La Grange area. It was learned that a tire came loose from a semi-truck and struck the side of the house. The tire caused significant damage to the house but thankfully no one was injured. Meagher also responded to a residence in the La Grange area in reference to shots fired. It was learned that a male subject went to the residence and struck a male subject over the head with a shotgun, fired the shotgun and then proceeded to exchange gunfire with another male subject. The male subject was arrested by Meagher on a warrant a few days after the incident occurred. Meagher also responded to a residence in the Schulenburg area in reference to an assault. After further investigation, a male subject was arrested for Assault Family Violence.

Detective Kenn Kretz assisted the Houston Police Department with the recovery and return of a stolen firearm to its rightful owner. Deputy Joe Gonzales took a report of a sexual assault in the Round Top area. Assisting in the investigation was Detective Marc Bennett. The suspect was subsequently arrested. Gonzales also took a report of theft which occurred in the La Grange area. While investigating the theft, it was learned the suspect had an active felony warrant for theft. The suspect was arrested on the warrant and the case remains under investigation.

Deputy Michael Krenek responded to a business in the Round Top area in reference to a disturbance which occurred in the past. Information was gathered and charges are pending for Assault Causes Bodily Injury. Krenek also took a report of identity theft which occurred in the Round Top area.

Deputy Holly Smith was dispatched to the Cistern area in reference to a motor vehicle accident, Smith made contact with the property owner who advised that the driver fled the scene. Smith conducted an investigation and was able to make contact with the registered owner of the vehicle at a later date. Information was exchanged between both parties and a report was completed. Smith also conducted a follow up in reference to serving a trespass warning referencing property located in the Muldoon area. The suspect was located and served a trespass warning.

Deputy Jared Michalec stopped a vehicle in the West Point area. After further investigation, both occupants of the vehicle were found to be in possession of methamphetamine and were arrested. Deputy Michalec assisted Deputy Buitron on a domestic disturbance which occurred in the La Grange area which resulted in the female subject being arrested for Assault Family Violence.

Deputy Seth Nagel stopped a vehicle in the La Grange area for a traffic violation. After further investigation, one passenger was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested.

Deputy Orlando Buitron stopped a vehicle in the Ellinger area for a traffic violation. After further investigation, both the driver and passenger were found to be in possession of cocaine and were arrested. Buitron also responded to the La Grange area in reference to a domestic disturbance. After further investigation, one female was arrested for Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family/Household.

Deputy Lee Phillips was dispatched to an address in the La Grange area in reference to a burglary. A report was taken and the case is under investigation. Phillips was dispatched to an address in the La Grange area in reference to a death investigation. A report was taken and the death was later ruled a suicide. Phillips also took a report of a burglary that occurred in the Fayetteville area where a pet parrot was taken. A report was taken and the case remains under investigation.

Deputy Dustin Kieshnick stopped a vehicle in the Ellinger area for a traffic violation. After further investigation, Kieshnick located several types of narcotics along with a handgun that was reported stolen. The driver was arrested. Kieshnick also stopped a vehicle in the Flatonia area for a traffic violation. Both occupants were found to be in possession of approximately 24 bottles of promethazine and codeine and were arrested.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 63 individuals for the month of December. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported six individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
