Muldoon VFD Hosting BBQ Pork Sandwich Fundraiser

The Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a barbeque pulled pork sandwich fundraiser on Saturday, May 21 at the Muldoon station. This is to raise funds for equipment and operational expenses. It is presale tickets only, so get your tickets now. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets must be purchased by May 14. The plates will include a large sandwich, sausage link, chips and a cookie. Price for the plates is $10 each.

Kids’ Kamp Registration Open

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners is pleased and proud to announce its fifth year of holding Kids’ Kamp in Washington, Colorado, Fayette, and Austin Counties. This program is structured to provide a “hands on” educational experience with the goal of introducing youth of our area to the fun and importance of gardening, soils, water conservation, and insects.

On Tuesday, May 3 at 5 p.m., defenders of women’s rights all over the nation gathered to protest the leaked opinion from the Supreme Court overturning the Roe vs. Wade ruling regarding abortion. “More than 60% of Americans are in favor of keeping it that way. These ladies of the Fayette County Democratic Party gathered at the court house to show their support for women’s rights. Women’s rights are human rights. We are pro-choice not pro-abortion,” one of the local protestors said.

Decision 2022: Landslides & Close Calls

Municipal, school board and constitutional amendment elections took place Saturday, May 7. Fayette County voters overwhelmingly approved the two constitutional amendment propositions that were on the ballot. Both passed statewide with more than 80 percent of the vote. Proposition 1 extends statewide property tax relief passed in 2019 to elderly and disabled property owners whose taxes were frozen. Fayette Coun-ty voters approved it by a vote of 2,059-274. Proposition 2 raised the homestead exemption from $25,000 to $40,000. It passed in Fayette County by a vote of 2,063-310.

Sewer Plant Overflows Into Schulenburg Creek

The sewer plant on Babylon Lane in Schulenburg overflowed last month. Schulenburg officials told the Record that the incident happened on April 11 after one of the City’s industrial customers accidentally left a valve open.
