Starting Thursday, Oct. 6, a healthy meal planning program called “Healthy Home Cooked Meals” will be offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County for three consecutive Thursdays ending on Oct. 20. The classes will be conducted from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104, La Grange. Join us in the kitchen and create healthy, home cooked meals. Learn how to make ordinary meals extraordinary for a healthy lifestyle. A special focus on nutritional behavior changes for individuals with diabetes will also be offered during the series. Hands-on activities in the kitchen, recipes, handouts, and food tasting will be included in each class. The series will include educational information on understanding carbohydrates, reducing sodium in foods, ways to increase fiber in your diet and celebrating holidays sensibly.

Head to The Compound for Hollywood & Handbags Purse Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy 10 games of bingo with designer purse prizes, a catered brunch, mimosas, silent auction and lots of fun. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of Bastrop, Lee and Fayette Counties.

The Navidad Valley CattleWomen (NVCW) is a nonprofit organization with the primary focus of beef promotion and education in South Central Texas. The Navidad Valley local works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Additionally, they work to support the community with targeted outreach projects that include a beefy twist. The next Cattle-Women business meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Orsak’s Café in Fayetteville. The meeting will begin with a Dutch treat lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Next year’s Fayette County Budget will include a deficit after all. Fayette County Commissioners Court finalized the 2023 County Budget at their meeting Thursday, Sept.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday, Sept. 13 around 10:36 a.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s office dispatchers received information from Houston police that a reported 2022 grey Toyota Highlander vehicle was stolen from the Houston area and was traveling on Hwy. 159 westbound in the Rek Hill area towards Fayetteville. Deputies responded to the area along with DPS troopers as the vehicle was tracked traveling on 159 as locations were updated the vehicle turned on Burnside Rd. and stopped at the intersection with Leslie Rd. DPS troopers Josh Berger and Mason Hartnett and multiple deputies arrived and the male subject was taken into custody without incident. Arrested and transported to the Dan. R. Beck Justice Center was 42-year-old Justice Alliden Brown of Houston who was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and failure to identify.
