Round Top held its 172nd Annual Fourth of July Celebration and Parade on Monday, July 4. The tiny town’s population soared for the day as hundreds lined the streets and town square to watch the parade.

The smiling cowboy that adorns the new Texan store in Schulenburg is giving local folks something to smile about. A gas war broke out in Schulenburg last week after the new convenience store opened at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10.

Mattocks Named Hermann Sons Top Producer

Hermann Sons Life insurance agent Linda Mattocks of Fayette County was among several agents who qualified for recognition based on their sales production in 2021. Mattocks was the top producing agent for 2021 and qualified for the President’s Club, one of three clubs for which agents may qualify based on premium income generated and applications written during a calendar year.
Linda Mattocks, center, was among the agents honored at a June 4 banquet hosted by Hermann Sons Life for its top producers. Presenting Linda with her award were President and CEO Eugene Zollinger and Vice President of Sales Robin Czarnek.

Volunteers Recognized at Friends Meeting

On June 16, Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites recognized the contributions of volunteers during the Friends Group’s Annual meeting. Between June 2021 and May 2022, volunteers donated more than 2,300 hours of service through special events, interpretive programs, community outreach, historical research, landscaping, and more. “Over the last year, we’ve been proud to welcome folks to exciting events and programs at our beautiful historic sites,” says Assistant Sites Manager Gavin Miculka. “However, none of it would be possible without the contributions of our dedicated volunteers.” Volunteers who worked multiple events and programs received a commemorative glass stein. Site managers are always looking to expand the volunteer team. Round Top-Carmine Class of 1957 Reunites

The Round Top-Carmine class of 1957 gathered for lunch at JW’s Steakhouse in Carmine on Saturday, June 18 for their 65th year reunion. After a welcoming letter from J.C. Pohl was read by Elroy Isleib, classmates shared personal updates and concerns. The highlight of the event was to have Mr. Otto L. Fuchs, Jr., former ag teacher, in attendance.
