Property Tax Figures Finalized

The Fayette County Appraisal District certified the 2021 taxable property values for the various local governments last week. These are the numbers that local governmental bodies will use to calculate property tax revenue for next year’s budgets.

Round Top Looking to Improve Its Town Square

The Round Top town courthouse’s 100th birthday is coming up in 2025, and town leaders are trying to come up with a way to improve the area around it. “We’re generating a lot of sales tax revenue and we wanted to think about what we could do to give the town square the TLC it deserves,” said Round Top mayor Mark Massey.

Free Meal Program Ending at Three County Schools

State and federal pandemic food programs provided free lunches at nearly all schools in America last year. Those programs are coming to an end, and some schools will resume charging students for lunch. That won’t be the case is La Grange, however.

Fayette County 4-H Students Compete at District 11 Horse Show

Fayette County 4-Hers competed in the 2022 District 11 4-H Horse Show in Edna on May 31 and June 1. Teagan Kallus, above, competed in numerous events and was awarded Junior Champion Judged Horseman. Elizabeth Shank, right, competed in numerous speed events and was awarded Senior Reserve Champion Timed Horseman. Elizabeth and Teagan advanced to the State 4-H Horse Show in July.

Animal Shelter Update

As of July 15, the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter has 118 animals in care: 50 dogs/68 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

The Blinn College District and the Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar ISD’s recently launched a new partnership designed to increase high school dual credit completion and establish seamless pathways toward postsecondary awards and industry credentials.
