A home on Camp St. in La Grange belonging to Eva Caine caught fire Sunday night, Oct. 2. Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the family was able to get out of the home without any injuries. However, he said the double wide manufactured home suffered extensive damage and will likely be a complete loss.

The call came in at about 9:27 p.m. Menefee said one of the occupants called 911 after discovering a ceiling ventilation fan on fire in the bathroom.

“When we arrived, the fire was in the attic cavity, primarily located in the center of the structure,” Menefee said.

The roof collapsed into the center part of the home.

“Anytime you have a fire trapped in the attic, it’s hard to get to,” he said.

The fire department responded with two fire engines, a grass truck and eight firefighters. They extinguished the fire and left the scene around 1:06 a.m.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the family recover from the fire. Visit https://gofund.me/25acc1eb to make a donation.
