Oktoberfest
New Ulm Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, rain or shine at The New Ulm Fireman’s Park. This fun filled festival provides delight for all. Come sing and dance to authentic German music, taste the hearty foods and enjoy your cold drink of choice. There will also be a vendor area with local artisans, crafters and businesses offering a variety of items to take home. The gates open at 10 a.m. German food, including sausage, sauerkraut, desserts and more available for sale along with wine and beer and non-alcoholic drinks. Scheduled to perform in the morning is Mason Marek, New Ulm singer- songwriter and Don Allphin from Sealy. Afternoon performances feature authentic German music by Gene Hackemack & Band and Duane Wavra.
Buckner’s Creek
Buckner’s CreekWMA annual meeting will be held Saturday, Oct. 8 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church Hall, Plum Church Rd. in Plum. Doors open at 2 p.m. and meeting is at 3 p.m. Meal to follow. Bring a salad or dessert to share.
Game Watch Party
The Texas Exes Fayette County Chapter will host a TX Vs. OU Game Watch Party and Fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Round Top Brewing, 101 W. Austin St. Round Top. Join for a family friendly game watching party. All Longhorn fans (or non-OU supporters) are welcome. The chapter will have events going on throughout the game like squares and a silent auction to support 2023 scholarships.
Baseball Fundr
The Fayetteville Baseball Alumni Association will be holding their 2nd Annual Fundraiser Oct. 14-15 at the SPJST Ball Park in Fayetteville. Friday, Oct. 14 BBQ Cook Off opens for arrival. Chef’s Choice, Margarita Contest, Gun Raffle and Live Auction will take place that evening. Saturday, Oct. 15 there will a Bloody Mary Contest, Corn Hole Tournament, Goat Roping, 50/50 raffle and Cook Off winners will be announced. The concession stand will be open with hamburgers, drinks and more. (BYOB). A raffle with the top prize a $1000 Visa card will be held. (No Home Run Derby this year due to field construction.) Bethlehem Lutheran Fried Chicken
Bethlehem Lutheran Church will serve fried chicken with all the fixings for the community on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Round Top Rifle Hall for a fun day with great food and fellowship. The day begins at 10 a.m. with a rousing outdoor service featuring country western music. After the service at 11 a.m. a fried chicken dinner with noodles and green beans will be served for eat-in, take out, or drive-thru. Serving will continue until 12:30 p.m. or when the delicious fried chicken runs out. A sweets table will provide lots of choices for a fine dessert. The fun continues with the announcement of the winners in the exciting multi-prize raffle. Whole chickens will be available at the pit. Boy Scout Fundraiser
A meal fundraiser for local Boy Scouts will be held Monday, Oct. 10. The meal is drive-thru only from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church located at 800 N. Franklin St. in La Grange. The meal will consist of barbecue pork, tortillas, homemade cole slaw and beans. Tickets are available at Round Top State Bank and Fayette Savings Bank. The monthly Monday Women’s Action Guild (WAG) meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at FUMC (Flatonia United Methodist Church), 403 East North Main Street, in Newman Hall. Mindful Meditation
Starting Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Fayette Public Library is partnering with Jenny Janda to offer a Mindful Meditation program for teens on the second Tuesday of every month from 4:30-5 p.m. in the meeting room. American Legion No. 102 & Auxiliary
The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. The Auxiliary members are reminded that membership dues are now due and may be paid at the meeting. Several business items are on the agenda for discussion, member attendance is encouraged. The Post and the Auxiliary are inviting new potential members to attend. A light meal will be served following the meeting.
Difficult Behaviors Workshop
Turtle Wing is underwriting a workshop on Oct.13 from 6-8 p.m. at the Norma Webb Center in La Grange. Presenter La Keisha Moore (Psychotherapist and owner of Guiding Hearts Counseling, PLLC) will be discussing how to better understand the cause of difficult behaviors as well as learn positive behavioral management strategies. Classroom tools to help manage behavior will also be shared. This workshop is open to daycare staff, teachers, parents, and anyone else who may be interested. Heritage Festival and Muziky
The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center located at 250 West Fairgrounds Rd. in La Grange will celebrate the 125th Anniversary of SPJST. on Friday, Oct. 14 from 4-10 p.m. Enjoy chicken and dumplings and music from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with the Dujka Brothers. On Saturday, Oct. 15 opening ceremony at 11 a.m. enjoy train rides, antique tractor and car show and Saturday night fireworks finale.
