Fayette Community Foundation Accepting Grant Applications
The mission of the Fayette Community Foundation is to build stronger, safer, and more vibrant communities by providing a bridge that connects caring philanthropists to those in need. The Foundation’s annual Community Impact Grant supplies responsive funds made possible by, in large part, the philanthropy of Fayette County residents. Donation’s toward FCF’s Community Impact Fund directly build local nonprofit capacity and respond to our rural community’s ever-changing opportunities and challenges over time. The Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) is now accepting applications for the 2022 Community Impact Grant Cycle, with a deadline of September 30. All registered nonprofits serving within 80 miles of La Grange, are encouraged to apply. FCF will consider any program that enriches the lives of its citizens; however, funding priorities will be given to community services focused on Health, Education, Housing, and Workforce Development.
Shelter Update
As of Sept. 2, the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter total intake for 2022 is 937: 408 dogs and 529 cats in need. As of Sept. 2, the shelter has 144 animals in care: 57 dogs/87 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner. The shelter offers a discount voucher program for spay/neuter for citizens of Fayette County. Call (979) 966-0021 for more informaiton. Warda Neighbors Night Out Oct. 16
Neighbors Night Out in Warda is planned for Sunday, Oct. 16, beginning at 4 p.m. at the picnic grounds. Everyone in the area is invited to come together to celebrate our community and enjoy food, fellowship and information from a handful of local officials and leaders. There will be BBQ on bun, hot dogs for the kids and Blue Bell ice Cream. This will be an opportunity to get to know folks who may be new to the area and to catch up with old friends. Fayette Among Counties Named Primary Natural Disaster Areas
This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department ofAgriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend muchneeded emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
Hwy. 237 Estate Development Announced
At the edge of Washington and Fayette Counties, The Estates at Astoria has just been announced. The 62+-acre development will be the future home of 22 luxury estate-sized parcels from two to five acres that are situated amidst rolling terrain with mature trees, ponds, and lovely rural vistas. The new country community is the newest endeavor of experienced developer group Faircroft Communities, which has created neighborhoods from Sealy to Wharton. The Estates at Astoria will launch soon with infrastructure plans getting underway.
