Schmeckenfest Draws Thousands to Downtown LG for Holiday Fest

The 15th annual Schmeckenfest was held in downtown La Grange Thursday (it’s always the first Thursday of December) and one of the biggest crowds in the history of the event showed up. The weather was clear with just a touch of chill, making for perfect conditions for the sampling of the 32 wassail booths spread out around the courthouse square.

Join La Grange Methodist Church for fellowship on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5-7 p.m. Turkey will be served and you bring the sides. Teresa Stanley-Brown from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be speaking about the needs and care of the animals that are waiting for adoption. Bring something for the furry friends and help the local animal shelter. Items needed for dogs include Purina or Pedigree dry adult and puppy food (15-20 lb. bags or smaller), Pedigree canned adult dog fooddog treats, medium or large dog collars. Items needed for cats: 9 lives, Meow Mix, Friskies dry adult cat food (15-20 lb. bags or smaller), cat litter, toys. Supplies needed include paper towels, toilet paper, dishwahser detergent, antibacterial wipe, or Fabuloso.

Federal Student Aid Night Provided By Blinn College

The Alliance for College and Career Student Success (ACCSS) in South-Central Texas partners the Blinn College District with the Columbus, Fayetteville, Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Weimar Independent School Districts. It is the mission of ACCSS to collaborate as a partnership with rural publicschool districts and institutions of higher education to provide academic and career resources, guidance and support necessary for students to complete a postsecondary or workforce career credential. These partners work collaboratively to help create a cultural change where all students— with the focus on rural, low-income students—are prepared to take (and complete) dual credit classes, as well as stackable certifications and credentials that align to high demand careers.
