The Fayette County Commissioners Court heard an introduction from representatives of the Prairie View A&M Extension Service at their meeting last Thursday, April 23. Prairie View Extension Agent Ronnie McDonald and Natriez Peterson, Assistant Program Leader for the extension service’s economic development unit, spoke about the free services they offer to the community.

The 2026 Fayette County Aggie Muster was held April 21 at the KJT Hall in Ammannsville. The Fayette County A&M Club welcomed over 160 guests to honor those Aggies that have passed since April 21, 2025.

In addition to the La Grange ISD School Bond proposal, Ellinger residents will vote on an increase in city sales tax and city commissioner. Voting will take place at the fire station at 202 North Main Street on Saturday, May 2 from 7-7 p.m.

The Fayetteville Community Center and Performance Theater has received a generous $20,000 donation from BBAx Architects of Brenham, the architectural firm that designed the renovation of the organization’s recently opened facility on the historic Fayetteville town square.

On Thursday at 2:30 a.m., Fayette County Deputy Noah Geer initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg, Texas. The vehicle failed to yield to Deputy Geer’s emergency lights and siren and instead accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

At Thursday’s meeting, the Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a contract with Five Star Correctional Services for inmate meals at the Fayette County Jail. The company will provide pre-made meals from a menu created by a licenced dietician. The new service will provide some savings to the County. Beyer said the Sheriff’s Office currently spends about $2.06 per meal. The meals from Five Star Correctional Services will cost about $1.60 on average. The Court authorized a one-year contract with the company. – Andy Behlen
