County: Buy Local, Within Reason

At Thursday’s meeting, the Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a few vehicle purchases. They authorized Pct. 1 Commissioners Jason McBroom to purchase a new Chevy one-ton pickup from Oviedo Auto Group in La Grange for $57,884. The funds were available in the Pct. 1 Road and Bridge budget. McBroom said the pickup will replace an older truck “that has very little power when we pull a trailer.” McBroom said the new truck will be used to haul a backhoe and other heavy road-building equipment.

1,181 Have Voted Early So Far in LGISD Bond Election

The early vote total for the La Grange ISD Bond Election passed the 1,000-mark this weekend. Two more days of early voting remain Monday and Tuesday April 27-28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Fayette County Elections Office Voting Room, 275 S Ellinger Road, La Grange. Then Election Day is Saturday May 2 when the vote location shifts to La Grange City Hall (155 E. Colorado St.) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Updated Property Tax Information Now Available for Texas Taxpayers

New and updated property tax information has just been compiled by Fayette County Appraisal District and is available now to assist taxpayers. This property tax information is current and covers a wide range of topics, such as taxpayer remedies, exemptions and appraisals and has information for select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons age 65 or older.

Arrest Made for Meth Here

Thursday at 10:45 a.m., The Fayette County Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2013 black Dodge Dart in the 2500 block of SH 159. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was found to be in possession of methamphetamine which was concealed on his person. The driver identified as Anthony Tamayo, 46 of Mathis, Texas, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Jail Passes Inspection

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that the Fayette County Jail passed inspection. On April 22, the jail was inspected by Michael Garrett, a TCJS Inspector with The Texas Commission on Jail Standards. On April 23, 2026, Sheriff Korenek received a letter from the Jail Commission stating the Commission wanted to acknowledge the excellent work of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office with a Certificate of Compliance for the Fayette County Jail.
