Shooting Now a Homicide Case After Victim Dies

The case involving the Flatonia Postmaster who allegedly shot a man in Lavaca County on March 5 is now a homicide. The Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office told the Record this week that the victim has died from his injuries.

Governor to Speak At Giddings Event

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is bringing his campaign for expanding support for private schools through a school voucher program to this area. Next Tuesday, March 28, Abbott is appearing at something being billed as Parent Empowerment Night at Giddings’ Immanuel Lutheran School.

It’s Show Time

The annual Fayette County Junior Livestock Show returns to the fairgrounds in La Grange this week, as youth will be showing their animals (about 340 registered entries) Friday and then selling them Saturday.

The World Comes to Fayette Co. – Again

Rainy weather rather than inflation was the only thing keeping folks away from the Round Top and Warrenton Antiques Show this week. Vendors say the crowds have been much better than the last two years, when COVID-19 kept many folks at home.
Vendor Larry Rush of Canton was busy restocking metal yard art goats at his tent in the Bar W Field in Warrenton Wednesday. Rush said the show has made a good comeback from the lean years of COVID-19.

Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting an annual meeting of the board of directors on Monday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Rd. in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

LCRA Picks Caldwell County for New Plant Site

The Lower Colorado River Authority announced Friday its new peaker power plant will be built in Caldwell County. The new plant, which will provide about 190 megawatts of dispatchable power to the Texas power grid, will be built on a 51-acre-site in the Maxwell area.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Wednesday morning around 3:15 a.m. Deputy Austin Moore observed a white 2010 GMC SUV with a flat tire parked in the median area on I-10 at the 669 mile marker on the eastbound side with hazard lights on.

RT-Carmine Kindergaten, Pre-K Round Up Set April 4

Round Top-Carmine Elementary will have a Kindergarten and Prekindergarten Roundup on April 4, at the elementary school from 5 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Eligible children who plan to attend Kindergarten and/or Prekindergarten at Round Top-Carmine Elementary for the 2023-2024 school year are invited to attend.
