Pioneer Unit Herb Society Recently Met In Brenham

The June meeting of the Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America was held at the Brenham Presbyterian Church.

Linda Rowlett, a member of the Unit, presented a program titled “Emily Dickinson: The Poet as Gardener and Cook.” The Unit members enjoyed gingerbread, black cake, and chocolate caramels made from Emily Dickinson’s recipes. Linda showed many photographs of pages from Dickinson’s herbarium and discussed plants that Dickinson grew in her garden and in the conservatory at her home in Amherst, Massachusetts. In addition, Linda had photographs taken at the Dickinson home and garden where restoration is on-going. The Pioneer Unit’s next meeting is July 13, at 9:30 a.m. at the Brenham Presbyterian Church, with the presentation “Bee a Friend to Our Pollinators” to begin at 10 a.m. Kari Cottrell will be the speaker for this program, which will be followed by a potluck luncheon featuring summer vegetables. All are invited to attend. Learn more about the Pioneer Unit and about our upcoming meetings at www.herbsocietypioneer. org or by following the Pioneer Unit on Facebook.
