A pre-trial hearing was set last week in Gonzales for the ongoing embezzlement case involving two former directors of the Gonzales County EMS directors James Edward Russell and Carla Jean Russell. They are being charged with theft of a public servant of more than $30,000 after being accused of using EMS funds for personal use.

Thieves got away with nearly $90,000 worth of equipment from the new LGRV Resort in La Grange last week. La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said the resort owner reported the missing equipment to La Grange Police around 11 a.m.

Texas Monthly magazine has come out with its regular end-of-session list of best and worst state politicians, and Fayette County’s state senator Lois Kolkhorst was included in the list of Worst Legislators of 2023.
