$90,000 in Equipment Stolen from New La Grange RV Park

Thieves got away with nearly $90,000 worth of equipment from the new LGRV Resort in La Grange last week.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said the resort owner reported the missing equipment to La Grange Police around 11 a.m. last Thursday, June 22. The owner told police someone stole a 2019 Bobcat skid steer and a black 2018 Big Tex dump trailer from the site, located at 2395 W. SH 71 Business.

Officer Mitchell Maxwell responded to investigate. The owner reported the value of the skid steer at $67,003.08 and the trailer at about $22,000. The owner contacted the Bobcat dealership where he bought the skid steer. The dealership was able to track the skid steer using a global positioning system (GPS). The skid steer’s GPS last “ping” was at 1:27 a.m. that day at a location on the side of Sam Houston Parkway in North Houston. The dealership did not record any subsequent pings, Gilbreath said.

Gilbreath said the GPS device only reports its location when the machine is running. He speculated that the thieves found a way to remove the GPS device once they were in Houston.

Maxwell obtained video surveillance from a business near LG-RV which showed a black Ford F-350 and a white Ford F-250 entering the resort around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21. The two pickups travel out of view of the camera. Then around 11:21 p.m., the video shows the black F-350 pulling the trailer with the Bobcat loaded inside. The pickup leaves the parking lot and turns east on SH 71 Business with the white F-250 following behind about a minute later. Gilbreath said Maxwell was unable to read the license plates of the vehicles due to the image quality of the video. Maxwell entered information about the stolen equipment into the National Crime Information Center database.
