Sheriff’s Report
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on the following activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of May. Detective Marc Bennett is currently working 10 different cases along with CPS involving neglect and abuse of a child.
Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of three stray horses in the West Point area. The owner of the horses was quickly located and the horses were returned. Naumann also took a report of a theft involving fuel from a local gas station. The case remains under investigation at this time.
Sgt. Ryan Meagher was dispatched to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the Plum area. After further investigation, a male subject was arrested for Interference with Public Duties. Meagher and Deputy Holly Smith responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies responded and located the vehicle. After further investigation, two subjects were found to be in possession of a large amount of stolen mail. Both subjects were arrested on felony mail theft charges.
Deputy Herman Olvera responded to Interstate 10 in reference to shots being fired from a vehicle. Olvera lo-cated the suspects vehicle and through further investigation, the driver admitted to firing the shots. The driver who was also a convicted felon was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm. The driver was arrested on several charges including felon in possession of firearm, deadly conduct, endangering a child and possession of marijuana.
Deputy Austin Moore stopped a vehicle in the La Grange area. After further investigation, the driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine. Once at the jail, it was discovered the driver was found to be in possession of more narcotics and he received additional felony charges. Moore made contact with a pedestrian walking along the roadway, the male subject was found to have an active felony warrant out of Fayette County. He was arrested and transported to the jail without incident.
Deputy James Ulbig responded to a disturbance involving a male being hit by a vehicle. After further investigation, a female subject was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputy Duane Meagher responded to an address near Waelder in reference to an unattended death. There was no foul play suspected and the death is believed to be a result of natural causes.
Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to a call of a male subject being attacked by a swarm of bees. Gonzales administered his fire extinguisher in attempt to stop the bees from attacking the man. The male was flown via helicopter to a hospital and was able to make a full recovery. Gonzales also responded to a hospice inquest in the Ledbetter area.
Deputy Holly Smith responded to an assault that occurred at a bar near La Grange. An investigation was conducted and charges are pending at this time. Smith also took a report of an assault that previously occurred. Information was gathered and a report was completed.
Deputy Jared Michalec was dispatched to a residence near Flatonia, in reference to a disturbance. After further investigation, it was determined one subject pulled a knife and tried to stab his father. The male was arrested and transported to jail without incident.
Deputy Seth Nagel attempted to stop a vehicle on US 290 at Round Top Rd. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle came to a stop inside of the Giddings city limits. The driver and sole occupant was arrested and charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.
Deputy Wesly Arrison took a report of a theft of a utility trailer. The stolen property was recovered in Caldwell County. Arrison also assisted in an investigation at a local school in which a student was charged with invasive video recording.
Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 66 individuals for the month of May. Sawyer reports that the jail staff transported 8 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
