Meals on Wheels Helped 215 Local Folks Last Year Since 1966, Combined Community Action, Inc. (CCA) has been providing services to assist and improve the lives of people in multiple communities including Fayette County.

Pictured left is one of two firefighting planes known as “super scoopers” that flew into Fayette Lake to collect water to dump on the Powderkeg Fire in Bastrop County Tuesday, Aug. 1. A video shared with the Record showed the two planes skimming across the surface of the lake Tuesday afternoon. In less than a minute, the planes filled their tanks with water and took back off towards Bastrop. A nearby resident said the planes made three trips to the lake Tuesday afternoon. Walter Flocke, a spokesman for the Texas Forest Service, reported that the fire was 60 percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon. At its peak, the fire burned more than 100 acres between SH 71 and the Bastrop State Park. Flocke said the fire had destroyed at least one structure and one outbuilding as of Wednesday.

The Living Vine Christian Church is hosting a garage sale Saturday, Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at 124 S. Water St. behind Reeder’s A/C. All proceeds go to help with medical expenses for Visar Halilaj, the owner of Ere’s Italian Restaurant in La Grange. Halilaj was in a motorcycle accident on June 29 and is still in the hospital. Come shop in an air conditioned building and help this family. Several families are selling an assortment of items.

Despite the ever-rising temperatures in Texas, the La Grange HS Mighty Leopard Band has pushed through and begun rehearsing for the upcoming 2023 season. Split up into three weeks, band camp for the ensemble has given every section an opportunity to focus on their specific parts for this year’s show.

Fayette County Commissioners Court considered raises for County employees during their last budget workshop on Thursday, July 27. Commissioners had been considering a five percent raise for most County employees and a seven percent raise for Fayette County EMS and the Sheriff’s Office personnel.

A La Grange man, 32-year old Felix Isaac DeLaRosa, was killed Thursday on Interstate- 10 near Seguin. According to incident reports, DeLaRosa was the driver of a Dodge Durango and had a single vehicle accident on the interstate.

At the July La Grange School Board meeting several personnel changes were announced. New hires for the 202324 school year are: Emily Ayres - elementary 6th grade reading teacher, Cameron Hammontree – elementary physical education and coach, Amanda Lamza – high school counselor, Zachary Mueller – elementary physical education and coach, Sherrie Tolbert – elementary 5th grade reading teacher, Robyn Ulrich – elementary kindergarten teacher, Elizabeth Villasana – elementary 1st grade teacher, Kimberlee Anderson – 18+ teacher, Kelsey Bohuslav – high school ag teacher, Blake-Ann Fritsch – 6th grade elementary math teacher, Christopher Gillum – middle school teacher and coach, Layne Schramm – athletic trainer, Juan Torrez – child nutrition supervisor, Meghan Brooks – elementary educational aide, Martha Lara – K-6 food service worker, Edith Montemayor – ESL intervention support paraprofessional and after school care.
