Work on Old Business 71 River Bridge Could Begin Soon

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reports that renovations on the old iron truss bridge across the Colorado River in La Grange could begin by the end of the year.

TxDOT spokesperson Lucea’n Kuykendall said a pre-construction with the contractor, Cerka Inc., is scheduled for Nov. 7. The same contractor is finishing up rehab work on a similar truss bridge on US 87 in Cuero.

Kuykendall said the contract for the La Grange bridge is for $8.2 million. The work will take approximately 10 months, she said.

Once complete, the old bridge will carry westbound traffic on Business 71 and the new bridge will carry eastbound traffic.
