Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host a special program, “Beyond Beer: Beverages of the Bluff,” on Saturday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees will learn about and sample a variety of non-alcoholic beverages that were popular among German-Texan families in the late 19th century, particularly at community gatherings on the Bluff. The program will also serve as a volunteer informational meeting where community members can discover new volunteer opportunities.

The real Fayette County Fair begins Thursday Aug. 31, but there are several events on the grounds in La Grange this weekend as part of what is being billed as Fair Kick-off Weekend – and there’s no admission. The BBQ cook off is being held this weekend, with awards about 5 p.m. Saturday followed by a free concert by David Lewis. The commercial heifer show begins at 1 p.m. Saturday and a goat roping competition begins at 8 pm. Saturday.
