‘Noticeable Reduction’ For Some Coming on Property Tax Mailings

Property owners statewide are getting some tax relief.

Many locals will find out just how much in their mailboxes in a few days.

Fayette County Property Tax statements were set to be delivered to the post office Wednesday Nov. 22, “so I would expect that folks should start getting them by early next week,” said Fayette County Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Richard Moring.

Last month, in a landside vote, Texas voters passed a measure (Prop 4 on the ballot) that, in part, raised Texas’ school homestead exemption — the amount that homeowners can trim off the taxable value of their primary residence for school property taxes — from $40,000 to $100,000.

“The additional homestead exemption amount and the compressed ISD rates will be reflected on these statements. As far as the amount of savings there will be, that’s hard to estimate due to different circumstances on the various accounts. The homestead and over 65 accounts, in particular, should see a noticeable reduction,” Moring said.
