WACA Community Christmas Party Held

W Zilss Hall was the venue for the annual community Christmas Party sponsored by the Winchester Area Civic Association last Friday. A wonderful evening was held with participants enjoying a baked potato bar.

Bluebonnet Electric Offices Closed for Christmas

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Dec. 26, in observance of Christmas. Bluebonnet members can access their account information and make payments while the offices are closed through the co-op’s website at bluebonnet.coop, MyBluebonnet mobile app or calling (800) 842-7708.

1973 - Mandatory Daylight Saving Time Becomes Law

President Richard Nixon signed legislation that put most of the nation on yearround daylight saving time to save energy. The daylight saving time bill was to go into effect at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, continuing to October 1975. It was the first time since World War II that year-round daylight saving time had been mandated. The president also authorized the use of 2,000 Internal Revenue Service agents to enforce fuel allocation rules.
There was standing-roomonly attendance for the Mass on Sunday, Dec. 16, when the new Sacred Heart Church in La Grange was dedicated. The service was followed by open house at the church and rectory.

American Legion Post 102 Presents Service Awards

The following awards were presented during the American Legion H. J. Ehlers Post 102 Christmas Party on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Veterans Hall located in the Fayette County Fair Grounds: The following members of the American Legion Post 102, were awarded Service Awards, ranging from 32 years to 49 years of service which included Gilbert Freudenburg, Melvin Schilling, Weldon Koenig, Glenn Altwein, John D. Marburger, J.R. Baca and Post Commander Richard Gray.
Legionnaire of the Year was awarded by Post Adjutant Mary Gray and Post Awards Committee Chair Glenn Altwein to Post Commander Richard Gray for his great performance as Post Commander.
