Fayette County Recylcled 1.2 Million Pounds Last Year

We’ve been having another great year within the Fayette County Recycling Program, recycling over 1.2 million pounds in plastic, newspaper, magazines, cardboard and aluminum (as of Oct. 31.) According to a Keep Texas Recycling report, 4.1 million gallons of water were saved by recycling. In addition to that, we have recycled just over 300 tons of glass, 375 tons of scrap metal, 15,990 pounds of electronics, and 359 tires. We have properly disposed of 25,407 pounds of household hazardous waste with the bulk of it being latex paint and mulched some 18,000 cubic yards of brush.

Hurricane Harvey Buyouts Close to Completion

The Hurricane Harvey buyout program edged closer to finally coming to an end in 2023. Fayette County Commissioners worked diligently with grant consultants and the General Land Office to purchase the final three pieces of property on Country Club Drive as well as get reimbursed for the closing costs and demolition work. The County was successful in obtaining two pieces of property and are anticipating receiving bids for the demolition worked needed at the end of the year. The final piece of property has a lien on it which is preventing the County from purchasing it, although work to remove the lien is ongoing.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Tuesday afternoon around 1:25 p.m. Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on I-10 Westbound at the 662 milemarker on a 2023 white Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup for traffic violations.
