Fayette Co. Community Theatre 2024 Season Set

Embarking on their eighth season, the Fayette County Community Theatre (FCCT) has announced the most ambitious season to date. They are looking forward to bringing the hugely popular and hilarious play Clue on Stage, (May 3-5), and the first western, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (Nov. 8-10) to the Sanford Schmidt Amphitheater. The annual student production will be the timeless classic The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe (July 26-28) in the LGISD Performing Arts Center.

Abbott, Paxton on Opposing Sides in Local House Race

Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton both vowed retribution against state lawmakers for votes they didn’t like during the recent legislative session. With the Republican Primary nearing, Abbott and Paxton are picking sides in a number of races, including the one for Texas House District 85, which represents Fayette County.

10-Year Sentence in Drunk Driving Fatality

The 155th District Court sentenced a drunk driver to 10 years in state prison for killing a local firefighter and businessman in 2022. Taylor Levick, 24 of Woodsboro, pleaded no contest to intoxication manslaughter, a second degree felony, during a hearing before District Judge Jeff Steinhauser on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Levick was driving a vehicle on SH 159 in Rutersville while under the influence of alcohol on Nov. 19, 2022. Levick crashed into another vehicle driven by Karl Walter Goehring, 47 of Walhalla. Goehring died in the crash. At the time of the crash, Levick was out on bail from a DWI arrest in Comal County The range of possible punishment for the offense was two to 20 years in prison. The prosecution offered Levick a plea bargain for 10 years in prison. Levick accepted the plea bargain during the hearing on Wednesday. He will begin serving his sentence in April. Goehring left behind a widow and two young sons. He was a member of the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department and the owner of a local heating and air conditioning company. Goehring was also well-known in the community as a gifted musician.

County Officials Report on 2023 Activities

Fayette County assigned 355 new 9-1-1 addresses during 2023. Seven named subdivision roads were also recognized as private roads for mapping purposes and added to the Fayette 9-1-1 addressing system.

La Grange City offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 in observance of New Year’s Day holiday. Waste Management will be off on New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. If your trash is normally picked up on Monday, it will get picked up on Tuesday. If your trash is on Tuesday, it will be picked up on Wednesday during New Year’s week. Airport Fuel Sales Down in 2023

All county hangars are currently occupied including two older hangars that transferred into county ownership. There are four individuals on the waiting list for a hangar.
